    Abstract

The JCP, or the Java Community Process, is the place where companies and individuals meet and discuss the evolution of Java Technologies. The JCP is an open, inclusive process, that allows virtually anyone to join and participate. But, being a standards organization, it has its set of rules and documents, that sometimes seems too complex, what can scare away interested parties. This talk is really an open conversation with a long time JCP member, that have been battling for more transparency and simplicity in the process. No question is too basic, no question is forbidden, no comment is too bold, this conversation will try to answer everything you ever wanted about the JCP!

Despite ongoing improvement among systems and service providers, and more experience among insurers, NEOS still sees 40% or more system deployment projects challenged to deliver expected value. Traditional systems selection processes that fail to differentiate between vendors, accurately identify needs, and balance the needs of all stake holders tend to be at the heart of this issue. In this webinar, we will discuss the best practices that insurers can follow to help system selection leaders be more effective, efficient, and successful in selecting the best solution and getting the implementation project off to a successful start.

You have started to hear about micro-services, evented asynch servers, and WebSockets be prepared to jump in with Vert.x. Using this new server technology you get all these features AND it runs JavaScript, Java, Scala, Python, Ruby, CoffeeScript, and Groovy. You don't have to be a Node.JS hipster to have all the fun - though JavaScript is fine if you roll that way.   This talk will cover a basic introduction to Vert.x and it's architecture. We are going to spin up a Vert.x server in less than 3 minutes in the cloud at a cost of $0 (the right price).  Then I will will show how I built a WebSocket asset tracking application with Leaflet and a Vert.x backend application. I will be using the US airplane flight tracking data to show events going through our server and pushed out to all the browsers in the room. The goal is at the end you can go home and start writing your own scalable, (a)synchronous, WebSocket enabled, map tracking application.

Connecticut Java User Group's (CTJUG) September meeting has been posted. This month David DiGangi from AppDynamics will present on the "Top 10 Most Common Java Performance Problems." Most performance issues in Java can be attributed to a handful of root causes. Occasionally bizarre corner cases can come out of the blue and wreak havoc in an application, but for the most part a vast majority of performance issues in Java are all pretty much cookie cutter. In this session, we’ll talk about some of the most common performance problems one can encounter along with how to recognize and address these issues to minimize their impact and prevent them from occurring in your application.

    Technology Race

Similar to broker dealers, insurers selling annuities are trying to understanding how to address the new Department of Labor rules. The changes will impact the selling process, methods of disclosure, service routes, and alter sales requirements; all of which can seem overwhelming. NEOS has been observing the initial trends that will help insurers seamlessly transition into the new environment. We want to share with you the key role that technology will play in helping companies leapfrog their competition and enhance their value to distribution partners. Join us as we talk with industry experts related to the following technology topics:

•Leveraging a lens-based approach to evaluate existing core systems against future requirements.
•Best practices in leveraging technology to sell and service smaller accounts.
•How digitalizing key processes will help gather the right data to ensure BICE requirements are met.

This 3-part blog series will demonstrate an end to end approach for managing process or capability redesign efforts, designed to nail down a strategy and gain leader buy-in quickly and effectively.
